Great Lakes Sailing "Suffice it to say that more than several crossings of Lake Huron in 8-to-10-foot waves, on two occasions on the beam, a tornadic sudden thunderstorm on the Saginaw Bay with wind gusts in excess of 60 knots, and a 60-mile beat crossing of Lake Erie from London Bay, Ontario to Cleveland in 25-knot winds, has led us to appreciate the strength our Caliber 33. Indeed last summer we were crossing Lake Huron in 20-plus knot north/northwest winds under reefed sails.
